On Wednesday, the carrier announced that it will be starting its direct flights from Seattle-Montreal starting May 2020. Flights will be on its new A220-300 jet and set to open more doors for the airline.

Air Canada’s Expansion

The airline said that the A220-300 jets, which will be given to the airline in December, will open new routes for them to reach. It will also help boost the airline’s capacity toontre cities with low traffic and use planes that match the demand.

In an interview, the airline carrier’s vice president of network planning Mark Galardo said, “The economics that come with this aircraft allow Air Canada to open new routes that you couldn’t serve profitably.”

The airline also hopes that the new planes will help bring more American passengers to Canada.

The new routes goes in line with the airline’s announcement in February. During the period, the airline said that it plans to expand its market share of US international transit traffic up to 2 percent. No set date was provided. However, it can generate an additional $675 million every year if the airline can push through with the plans.

Furthermore, Air Canada expects to get more A220s by next summer to replace existing air crafts in its roster. As far as its Boeing 737 MAX planes, the airline has taken all 24 air crafts out of its route map until January 8, 2020.

The Montreal-Seattle route begins on May 4, allowing passengers to connect to Europe and North Africa easily. Aside from this new route, the airline will also start its service for Toronto-San Jose, California on the same day on A220 planes.
